Exactly. It's just about being pragmatic, and getting the most out of our budgets. If the idea is that Byram would be a relatively inexperienced first-choice right-back next season, then the idea of having extra cover/competition there might mean we didn't need to buy another right-back or cover for left-back either, freeing up funds to spend elsewhere in the squad. If the club feel that players like Knoyle, Page, Hendrie, Burke etc are going to genuinely challenge the full-back spots, or the club are planning to buy more full backs, then the decision might be different, and of course the player might prefer to move on anyway.

Re: JOB
It would appear that Mr Bilic agrees with the fat man that he is better than any of young players so unless we win the cup or finish top 6 then we will neither attract or be able to afford a better 4th choice right back, 3rd choice
left back or 6th choice centre back.

He'll go Ipswich.

Re: JOB
Wouldn't be overly surprising given his friend is the manager and the lack of upheaval for his family, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't interest from championship clubs?

No, but it would be a relief.

Very reliable player. The club should consider keeping him on.

Can see BFS going in for him in the summer(especially if they go down).

"The club should consider keeping him on"

I like Joey, great bloke to have around etc etc but the club shouldn't consider keeping him, he owes us nothing for the effort he's put in and it's time for him to find a club whee he can play a bit of football.

We should be looking at a young right back to compete and push Byram.

Re: JOB
Easily our worst player last night, and was out of position many times.

Did a JOB for us in the Championship, and our first season back in the Premier League, but we should let him go at the end of the season.

If you need proof I'm right, then look at what Alex V has posted.

Re: JOB
I'm sure even JOB knows he's limited in certain areas, but the bloke is an outstanding pro and excellent cover.

Shame he couldn't bottle his attitude and give it to plums like Ravel.

Re: JOB
No he is shit and a club of our standing should have an international of a major country sitting around, waiting as 4th choice right back.

We really do have some helmets supporting us.

Re: JOB
I think he did really well last night until he got injured.

Up against some decent players after a long time out.

I think we should keep him on until there's no space for him in the 25. He can cover a few positions adequately.

Thought he did OK as he has for the whole of the time he's been with us.

Re: JOB
I thought he was fucking rubbish. There were 3 or 4 occasions they were overloading down the right hand side, and I look up to see Calamity O Brien trotting back over the halfway line without a care I the world.

Re: JOB
Worth his (fairly lowly) place in the squad.

And he's not THAT ugly. Some talk like he should have bag on his head.

Re: JOB
Antonio did well, worked hard, love him.

That said, he has shown a lack of finesse offensively and I wondered if that might show in a critical moment in a tackle at RB.

Would rather not find out as we need him up front.
